Our pastor is Gene Greer.  Reverend Greer, a native of Chattooga county and bi-vocational minister, holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Berry College, a Masters in Divinity in Pastoral Studies and an Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University.  Gene, as he likes to be called, also holds an honorary Doctorate from Jacksonville Theological Seminary and a  Certificate in Biblical Studies from the former Cornerstone College, now Logos European College.

In addition to his ministerial duties, Gene currently serves our local high school as band director. As a musician, Gene has performed throughout the region and country with groups such as the Nashville Gospel Brass, Rome Symphony Orchestra, the 8th Regiment Band, Roman Festival Brass, Northwest Georgia Winds, Clock Tower Jazz, Augusta Players theater ensemble and many others.

Gene is married to Anita and has one adult son and daughter-in-law, Tripp and Wendy Greer.  Dr. Greer has served as a public school educator for sixteen years and has served as an ordained minister, both bi-vocationally and full-time, for more than twenty years.

South Summerville Baptist Church is located in Summerville, Georgia in the scenic foothills of the northwest corner of the state.  We are a Southern Baptist church and a member of the Chattooga Baptist Association.

More importantly, however, we are a local body of believers, members of the body of Christ, who seek to be real people, possessing and exercising a real and relevant faith, relationally involved and engaged in the community and world in which we live.

A warm and welcoming place, at any given service you attend at South Summerville you will probably receive more hugs and handshakes than you're used to getting during our 'Greeting Time,' meet people who have never 'met a stranger' and will become 'instant life-long friends,' and leave knowing that you've found a 'home away from home,' a 'family of faith' for years to come.  Each time we meet is a 'family reunion,' a homecoming, per say, until we meet again.

You'll find that South Summerville is a warm, welcoming place, a group of people from all ages and walks of life on a journey, a journey to become exactly what our motto says we wish to be...

"A Haven of Hope for the Hungry,

Hurting and Hopeless."
